Melted Gold in A Lake

I used to think my name was odd, peculiar, and uncanny- something out of nowhere. A neutral name. Just medium and average- literally, in size and meaning. Selena was a Spanish/Mexican name, and I’m not Spanish, although it would be interesting if I was. But the real truth of me began before I was born, starting out with the hush of the audience and the credits appearing on a large screen. It was movie based on a true story about a girl that grew up to be a famous Mexican singer. Her name was Selena Quintanilla. She was gorgeous as was her voice. The sound of her voice made an alarm ring in your ears, shouting, “Where have you been this whole time?!” Her voice was magnificent and her spirit was bright. She was a leader, a striking, strong woman. She was known throughout the whole of Mexico. Selena Quintanilla was the reason for the word people call to get my attention. It was the sound that came out of my Mum’s mouth when she was cross. It was the three syllables that caught my eye. I still don’t understand one tiny thing, though. I have no clue why my parents chose that name, since the movie was ended with a shotgun and gasps, but I try to look at the basics. Me? Well, I’m fine, just- not her. I’m not famous, sadly. I’m not Mexican and most certainly, am I not dead. We might have some things in common like being females, or human. But I don’t see myself anywhere close to her, if I try imagining it. After a while, I began to feel grateful for my name- Selena. I actually find it very inviting- or should I say appealing? The fact that I don’t find the name suiting me, makes the name even more splendid because of how it shows that I am a little ironic, not fitting in places at times. It’s a unique name and only now I realize not many people have that name. I definitely take back saying my name was “average” and I do not think its a neutral name. Without a doubt have I fallen head over heels. Who wouldn’t? My name is the melted gold in a lake. Or like the water that rushes to the bottom of the sea in a waterfall and, silently clashes. Or even like the butterflies flutter, so beautiful yet so unnoticeable. My name was the warm hot chocolate in your shivery hands on a freezing day. My name was the inhale of glorious flowers like jasmine and lavender and maybe a little peppermint to refresh. My name is the sound of crickets chatting at ease in the evenings. It is the divine wind that rushes past your face just when you needed it. A spectacular mini tongue twister, I shall call it. Selena- is my name. I chose this picture because it states in my writing how my name is like melted gold in a lake. I find that is, because of how easily it rolls out of one's tongue. Just like liquid gold finding it's way through a lake.
